Matthew Chance has been appointed senior international correspondent
at CNN’s Moscow bureau. Chance, currently based in London as an
international correspondent, will replace Jill Dougherty, who has
become managing editor for CNN in Asia Pacific.
Chance has reported for CNN from Afghanistan, Chechnya, throughout
Europe, the Far East, Middle East and Russia. In Russia, he reported on
the hostage crises in Moscow in October 2002 and from Beslan in 2004.
“Moscow
has a pivotal role to play in the global news agenda and I look forward
to the challenges of reporting from Russia,” said Chance.
Asked
about working in Moscow, Chance added: “It can be difficult; the
bureaucracy can be tough to penetrate and it takes time to make the
right contacts within the positions of power to get under the skin of
the story.”
He takes up his new post in August.
