CNN: 9/11 was top story in UK

By Press Gazette

The British consider the 9/11 terrorist attacks as the most
important news event of the past 25 years – while the French and
Germans say it was the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The findings come from a poll carried out in the three countries by TNS to mark CNN’s 25th anniversary.

The
British chose Nelson Mandela as the individual who has had the largest
impact on the world, just ahead of Princess Diana. The French chose
Pope John Paul II and the Germans the former Soviet leader Mikhail
Gorbachev.

In Britain, 58 per cent said 9/11 was the most
important news event, with the fall of the Berlin wall coming second
with 23 per cent. Seven per cent chose the Gulf War.
