Free FT special analyses the City’s reaction

By Press Gazette

The Financial Times brought out a free special edition on Friday with news and comment on the result.

The
eight-page tabloid was distributed at commuter points around London and
at political locations such as the Houses of Parliament and Millbank.
It had a print run of 66,000 and was sponsored by the Royal Bank of
Scotland.

A spokeswoman said: “It ensured that everyone who was
interested in the election result got a briefing with information on
how the markets had reacted.

It also flagged up the coverage on our website FT.com and the comprehensive analysis in the next day’s weekend Financial Times.”

Students from De Montfort University’s postgraduate journalism course
worked through the night to produce a 20-page election special.

Their
paper included stories from students at key counts across
Leicestershire, who phoned in copy to eight colleagues manning a
makeshift election newsdesk. It also ran features on the big campaign
issues.

The students worked under the guidance of senior
lecturers John Dilley and Tor Clark. Dilley said: “It was a fantastic
experience for all the students who took part – whether they were out
at a count or in the university newsroom.

“The students have done
many months of real-world district reporting around Leicester, but
amazing opportunities like this don’t come along often and it’s
important to grab them when you can.”
