An international art magazine from Scotland launched this week aims
to appeal to an audience “in Scotland and beyond”, writes Alyson Fixter
.
Quarterly title Map is edited by Alice Bain, former editor of
Scottish arts and entertainments title The List and arts writer and
critic for several national newspapers, including The Guardian .
Bain said: “Maps and mapping crop up all over contemporary art.
“As
well as being grounded in the job of tracing real boundaries and
geography, they have an irresistibly direct line to the imagination.
“Based in Scotland, Map has set its sights on the wider world, placing Scottish visual art in a global context.
“Making
connections and journeys with artists, Map will draw together their
work and ideas into a snapshot of art activity and exhibitions in every
quarter.”
Bain said the magazine had been established with
“significant” funding from the Scottish Arts Council. It is published
by a new company set up by The List.
