Union facing £20k claim for discrimination

By Press Gazette

Disabled NUJ member Ju Gosling has been given permission to appeal
against the tribunal decision which rejected her £600,000 claim against
the union.

In October a tribunal ruled that Gosling was
discriminated against by the NUJ at its conference in Ennis, Ireland,
five years ago by failing to cater for her needs as a disabled
delegate. She was awarded £8,000 in the first case of its kind brought
under the Disability Discrimination Act.

Gosling argues that she
was made seriously ill by the discrimination and her lawyers, Imran
Khan & Partners, will ask for her payout to be increased to £20,500.
