Former Times editor Charles Wilson is on course to make a full
recovery despite spending four weeks in intensive care. This week
Wilson, 69, was recovering at home in London.
He was riding in
Leicestershire on 12 November when he fell from his horse and suffered
a broken pelvis and internal injuries. He developed complications in
hospital when he contracted pneumonia and the “super bug” MRSA. He
recovered from both – only to contract MRSA again.
Wilson said:
“While I was in hospital I received lots of cards, telephone calls,
letters and good wishes from former newspaper colleagues who,
surprisingly, were inquiring after my health and wishing me well.”
He said it was a month before he was allowed visits from anyone apart from his family.
Wilson
edited The Times from 1985 to 1990. He was also managing director of
Mirror Group and editor of the Glasgow Evening Times, Glasgow Herald
and Scottish Sunday Standard from 1976 to 1982.
