Music downloads

By Press Gazette

The Daily Telegraph claimed to be the first newspaper to provide free music downloads this month when it offered readers a complimentary 10track compilation of British music acts, writes Laura Topham .

The offer appeared in the paper’s new Music on Thursday pages on 16 December, and was available from Oxfam’s internet music store www.bignoisemusic.com.

The collection, The Best of British 2004 , was linked to the regular Perfect Playlist feature. This suggests a downloadable soundtrack for a different artist every week at a cost of £5, with 10 per cent going to Oxfam.
