Forbes: first big signings

Condé Nast has hired a team of top journalists for Easy Living, the new glossy for “grown up” women, including the creative guru behind its younger sister title, Glamour.

Easy Living is scheduled to launch next spring aimed at women aged between 30 and 59.

The team, led by former Vogue deputy Susie Forbes, includes features editor Lisa Markwell from the features desk of The Independent; Catherine Turner, former editor of Marie Claire Health & Beauty, as health and beauty director; David Herbert, former food editor on Sainsbury’s magazine, as food editor; and Angela Lamb, previously acting art editor on Red, as art editor.

Condé Nast appears to be hoping to replicate the success of Glamour, having also signed up Glamour’s creative director Geoff Waring and managing editor Lucinda Newcombe to retain similar roles, in addition to its awardwinning publisher Simon Kippin to oversee the launch.

The editorial team is expected to number 25 by the time it hits newsstands in the first half of 2005 with a mix of “real life” features, practical style and glamour, incorporating fashion, food, health and beauty, interiors and relationships.

There are six million women in Easy Living’s target market, who have spent more than £6.4bn on fashion in the past year alone, according to Condé Nast.

The impending launch is known to have created waves at The National Magazine Company, which publishes Good Housekeeping. Nat Mags has just hired the former editor of Homes & Gardens, Matthew Line, to draw on his expertise of the women’s market and spearhead a new project
