The Community Newswire, the Home Office funded partnership between the Media Trust and the Press Association, has put out its 1,000th story following its launch on 17 July.
The service aims to generate stories about voluntary and community groups.
Community Newswire stories have run in The Times, Daily Star, Manchester Evening News, Northern Echo and several other regional papers.
Among the broadcasters to have used the stories are Sky News, Central and Meridian.
When the service launched it was hoped the Newswire would run 20 stories a day but this has now been increased to 25.
“The response has been fantastic,” said Ben Pindar, the Newswire’s news editor.
“We’ve also been impressed with the quality of the stories and that has been reflected by the coverage they have got.”
Community and voluntary groups file press releases and photographs through the news service’s website www.communitynewswire.org to the Press Association’s northern centre in Howden, Yorkshire.
Reporters turn the releases into stories and put them out on PA’s regional newswires.
