Antiques Roadshow spin-off

By Press Gazette

BBC Magazines has launched a one shot based on the TV series Antiques Roadshow.

The BBC’s Antiques Roadshow magazine has been created by staff from Homes and Antiques magazine to test the market, and if sales prove a success, the corporation has said it could become a regular fixture.

It is the first magazine spin off for the show since it was first transmitted in 1979.

Edited by freelance journalist Sue Price, the 100-page title features personalities, antiques and experts from the television programme as well as a preview for the new series.

Price said: “In many ways, Antiques Roadshow was the original reality TV show – people don’t necessarily watch it for the antiques themselves, but for the stories behind them – and launching a magazine off the back of this compelling series is a reflection of the public’s current fascination with all-things reality.”

The magazine will go on sale for a six week period with a print run of 100,000 and a cover price of £2.50.

The launch also coincides with the new series of the Antiques Roadshow on the 5 September.

The programme regularly attracts more than 8m viewers.
