Drapers editor-in-chief Eric Musgrave has been appointed editorial director and has handed the title’s day-to-day running over to managing editor Josephine Collins.
Musgrave is to have a wider brief overseeing non-publishing activities and building stronger links with the fashion industry.
Musgrave became a reporter on Drapers Record, as it used to be called, in 1980. He left to do a stint as deputy editor on sister title Menswear – which was later merged with Drapers – before being headhunted to launch the independent style title For Him, which evolved into FHM.
Musgrave went on to edit Fashion Week before returning to Drapers Record and overseeing its relaunch and rebranding in October 2002.
Collins has also spent several years on Drapers, leaving briefly to freelance and to edit Carpet and Floor Coverings Review.
Asked about her plans for Drapers, she said: “The magazine is already at the top and it will be my role to make sure it stays there.”
Founded in 1887, Drapers Record was relaunched in 2002 in response to a changing industry. At the time Musgrave said there was too much overlap between the titles and that all the big players were unisex operators.
He also predicted that 73 per cent of retailers selling menswear would be selling womenswear by 2005.
