Dennis Publishing has just announced to staff that it is to close Jack magazine because of poor sales. The monthly title has been hit by the launch of weeklies Zoo and Nuts, which were more visible on the newsstand thanks to major promotions from IPC and Emap.
Dennis needed sales of 60,000 to break even, but it is understood that the forthcoming ABC figure will show newsstand sales of around 20,000.
The closure will result in job losses.
Jack was launched by former Loaded and GQ editor James Brown. He sold it to Dennis Publishing in May 2003.
