Setanta Sport, which will broadcast live Scottish Premier League soccer matches in a £35m four-year contract, has struck a deal with Sky Sports.
The Ireland-based satellite broadcaster will add its 38 Scottish games to the Sky package sold to about 40,000 pubs and clubs across the UK.
Sky offered Setanta a substantial sum for the rights to screen SPL Live.
Setanta, which will charge users £12.99 a month or £119 a year, needs 100,000 subscribers in Scotland to break even, and the deal with Sky will provide a significant financial filip.
The UK’s pubs and clubs pay Sky an average of £430 a month for their package, which includes the right to screen 400 live games a season – including 88 from the Premiership and UEFA and Champions League matches.
