Scottish broadcaster and journalist Charles Fletcher has been appointed to advise the international Hungarian public television service, Duna TV, on news and current affairs content, writes Sarah Lagan.
Fletcher, who is adviser to the general director at Slovak Television, was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for media training and consultancy services in Hungary.
He said: “Duna TV has relied too much on ‘protocol news’, stories about politicians meeting each other and getting their pictures taken – with rarely any basic news value.
“The work I do is to retrain journalists and editors on story judgement, values, treatment and writing.”
