Award-winning photographer dies

By Press Gazette

Award-winning former Daily Mirror photographer Peter Stone died on Tuesday morning, aged 61.

In a career spanning more than 40 years Peter built a reputation as a master of a craft which he learned covering weddings for his first local Thames Valley weekly. But his talents soon took him to Fleet Street and around the globe.

He journeyed to the heart of Africa, the numbing cold of Siberia and the horrors of Vietnam from where his images made him Photographer of the Year. Yet this larger than life character also had a love of the light side of life.

He produced a best-selling book of his hilarious exploits with Bob Geldof and his Boomtown Rats band.

He left the Mirror to set up his own successful publishing business in his native Wraysbury. He leaves a wife, Jan, a daughter Alexandra, who has followed in her father’s publishing footsteps, and a son, Lee.
