NUJ press officers sacked by Haringey Council in London have voted to end their dispute and accept an increased offer of compensation.
The council is refusing to reinstate the five press officers but it has agreed to a financial package more than three times the size of the original offer.
The jobs went in a consultancy restructuring exercise, which cut the number of press officers from six to four. The existing staff were told to reapply for the remaining jobs but voted not to do so and were sacked.
They then voted to strike and have been picketing the council offices since March.
NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear said: “We have achieved a measure of justice for five members who were shockingly treated by this Labour-run council. The NUJ remains opposed to the use of expensive and unaccountable private consultants to cut jobs.”
