The South Wales Echo scored a hat trick of awards at Trinity Mirror’s regional editorial awards, including the daily/sunday newspaper of the year.
Editor Alastair Milburn also picked up the trophies for best news pages in daily/Sunday titles and best innovation for the paper’s unique approach to reporting nostalgia, Blast from the Past.
The Cannock Chase Post picked up front page of the year for its splash: “One-legged lotto winner spends cash on sex change.” The judge said: “You couldn’t resist buying a paper with a headline like this!” The Chester Chronicle won two awards: best news pages (weekly titles) and paid-for weekly newspaper of the year.
