Top Gear spins off to add advice on car-buying

By Press Gazette

BBC Top Gear magazine has launched a spin-off to give its readers more advice on buying second-hand and new cars.

Top Gear Special will be published seven times a year and will feature contributions from Top Gear TV presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

Publisher Adam Waddell said: “With the general success of both the magazine and the recently revamped Top Gear TV programme, we feel that the time is right to offer a product that picks up certain aspects of the monthly magazine and investigates them in even more detail.

“While many of the weekly and monthly titles, including Top Gear, carry detailed road tests of specific cars, they don’t cover every car choice in this way.”

Some of the issues will be dedicated to buying new cars, while others will focus on used cars.

The June issue concentrates on cars at the top end of the market and includes road tests on the latest supercars.

The spin-off is part of a programme of changes at the title under new editor Michael Harvey, including a greater emphasis on cars rather than driving.

Top Gear Special will have a cover price of £4.95 and each issue will go on sale for eight weeks.
