Torquay’s Herald Express has called on all 36 Torbay councillors to resign in a dramatic front page, including all their pictures.
In a page one comment, editor Brendan Hanrahan said the call for the councillors to go was the only way to end the “scandal and farce” of councillors voting themselves increased allowances while pushing up the council tax.
“This has brought the name of Torbay into disrepute,” said Hanrahan.
The paper’s view was overwhelmingly backed in a phone poll. Readers voted by 2,068 to 213 for the councillors to quit so a new council could be elected.
