Homes & Antiques in cover revamp

BBC Homes & Antiques magazine has revamped its cover and logo to make it less clumsy and easier on the eye.

The new design appears in the April issue and follows the appointment of art director Simon Thompson, who joined from BBC Good Food at the start of the year.

Gabi Tubbs, a former deputy editor and style director on Homes & Gardens, has also been instrumental in the changes.

Publisher Brain Whittaker said: “We wanted to take the magazine visually to where it was perceived in the quality of its writers and contributors. The cover looked a little clumsy and we were perhaps guilty of trying to do too many things at once. The idea was to get something that could clearly be read in terms of image and text.”

The new logo forms part of ongoing changes in a bid to increase its last ABC of 141,077. Homes & Antiques is to undergo research over the next month to test the response to its editorial.

Whittaker said he was also looking at the best way of using marketing spend, with the possibility of more cover-mounts from the October issue.

The April issue also features the greatest finds from the Antiques Roadshow as well as an exclusive preview of the Paris apartments of Madame de Pompadours, a former mistress to Louis XV.
