Freelance photographer Guy Smallman is back at work six months after suffering horrific injuries covering anti-G8 protests in Geneva.
Smallman claims he was covering a peaceful part of the protest when he was fired upon by Swiss riot police. A “fist-sized” hole was blown out of his leg when he was hit by a police stun grenade. He is currently seeking compensation from the Swiss Government backed by the NUJ and a Swiss journalism union.
He said: “The video and other evidence is currently with the police and if they admit liability, I should get a settlement. If they don’t, it goes to court. I’m not going to let this go, you should see the scars I’ve got.”
