Ian Belcher has quit as editor of Heritage Today magazine after just nine months.
Belcher, a former Maxim freelance, said he had resigned from the magazine for members of English Heritage for “personal reasons”.
He is leaving to go to Australia at the end of October.
Belcher, who oversaw a relaunch when he joined last year, said: “The job is fascinating. It’s very interesting, heritage, but it wasn’t feasible as I’m going abroad.”
A former PPA feature writer of the year, Belcher was associate editor on the launch of BBC women’s glossy Eve and has freelanced for The Times and The Observer. He said he intended to stay in journalism and had no plans to stay in Australia permanently.
Heritage Today is published quarterly by John Brown Citrus Publishing and the company is in the process of recruiting a new editor with some knowledge of English history.
The title was previously part of the Citrus portfolio but was incorporated into the John Brown stable after the takeover in 2002.
