Purcell and Lalani exchange roles

By Press Gazette

Steve Purcell, assistant features editor on the Daily Mirror for the past three years, has taken over as editor of the paper’s online edition, Mirror.co.uk. He replaces Shiraz Lalani in a straight exchange of roles.

Purcell joined the Mirror after helping to organise the first televised Pride of Britain Awards in 2000.

He previously worked for The Daily Telegraph in Manchester and the Daily Star as a sub-editor and then senior feature writer.

After leaving the Star in 1997 Purcell wrote a biography of Des Lynam, an Official History of Wembley Stadium and produced the documentary Kiss and Sell for Channel 4’s Cutting Edge series.

He started in journalism as a trainee with the Nelson Leader series of weekly papers in Lancashire.

Lalani joined the Mirror as a graduate trainee in 1997. She worked as a reporter on the Sunday Mirror, Sunday People and Daily Mirror.

From January 2000 until June 2001, Lalani worked on the internet section in the Mirror and she helped relaunch Mirror.co.uk in 2001 as site editor.
