Hull Mail hits No 10 as part of campaign

By Press Gazette

The Hull Daily Mail presented copies of a special issue to Downing Street as part of its campaign to avert the possible closure of a local defence plant.

Business reporter Paul Baxter joined 700 workers from the Brough plant in Hull on a mass lobby of parliament. The protesters carried posters supplied by the Mail and Baxter handed copies of the paper to members of the cabinet. The Mail wants the Government to award a £10bn contract for Hawk trainer jets to BAE Systems in order to safeguard 2,000 jobs.

The following day the Mail carried a poster front page with the headline “The plea that must be heard” and devoted the first five pages to the story. Readers have signed more than 2,000 coupons backing the Mail’s campaign.
