Mid Devon Gazette series gets new editor

By Press Gazette

Mary-Ann Bloomfield has been made editor of the Mid Devon Gazette series after nearly five years there.

She was formerly deputy editor of the Gazette. Bloomfield says the promotion reflected the efforts of her 12-strong editorial team as well as her achievements at the paper. “Being promoted to editor is a compliment for the achievements that we’ve made to date but more importantly it gives the newspaper the leadership it deserves to take it onward,” she told Press Gazette.

“We’re always developing and we have a lot to do.”

Bloomfield, pictured right, came to Tiverton from the Midlands where she started her career as an apprentice reporter on her home town newspaper in Sutton Coldfield. She went on to work in daily and weekly newspapers across the region and was deputy editor of the Evesham Journal and Admag series before moving south.

Although she didn’t move to Devon until she was nearly 50, Bloomfield says she is now enjoying her job more than ever.

“The older I get the more I want to do. It never stops, which is the brilliant thing about the best job in the world. I’ve no intention of slowing down.”
