Sebastian Hamilton, Sunday Telegraph deputy news editor, is to become news editor of The Mail on Sunday, writes Jean Morgan.
MoS editor Peter Wright chose Hamilton to replace Paul Field, who is to run The Sun’s news desk operation.
He has been at The Sunday Telegraph for 18 months and before that has piled up experience with different titles since beginning his career as a graduate trainee at The Sunday Times, a newspaper his grandfather, Sir Denis Hamilton, once edited.
Hamilton joined the political team at The Sunday Times in 1995 and became its Westminster correspondent in 1997. A year later he switched papers to become Scotland on Sunday’s Westminster editor.
In 1999, he moved to Sunday Business as political editor, later rejoining Scotland on Sunday, before switching to The Scotsman as news editor.
