Trevor Dann, a former BBC head of music entertainment, head of production at Radio 1 and managing editor at BBC Radio GLR, has resurfaced at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire to present the station’s breakfast show.
He will present the show six times a week – weekdays and Sundays – running a combination of music, live guests and review of the week’s news. Dann said he could guarantee his programme would be a lively show that would “challenge as well as entertain”.
Dann, famous for producing the Live Aid concert for BBC television, bringing Jonathan Ross to Radio 2 and banning Status Quo and Beatles records from Radio 1, will work with co-presenter Emma MacLean.
He was at the BBC for 25 years until 2001, when he became managing director of pop at Emap Performance. He famously quit as managing editor of GLR in 1993 after the BBC changed the policy of the station to include more speech.
After joining Radio 1 in 1995, he earned the soubriquet “Dann Dann the Hatchet Man” for sacking a number of presenters, including Bruno Brookes, under the direction of Radio 1 controller Matthew Bannister. Dann has also written for The Times, Q, Mojo, and the Evening Standard.
