Teachers will be targeted by a new weekly newspaper in April, writes Ruth Addicott.
The tabloid SecEd will cover a wide range of issues and offer practical advice for teachers in secondary schools.
Produced by Mark Allen Publishing, the 32-page title will have a print run of 40,000 and be distributed free to every secondary school in the UK in both state and independent sectors. Additional copies will be available through subscriptions and newsagents.
Kate Silvester, former deputy editor of Headteacher Update and editor of the School Visits Guide, is editor. Hannah Frankel, former news reporter on Precision Marketing, is news editor and Matt Walker, former editor of Footloose magazine, is production editor.
Allen said it was a good opportunity because the launch would create a separate untapped niche for secondary school teachers. “We will not be stepping on anyone’s toes,” he said.
“We have researched and piloted the publication to secondary teachers and it met with an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response.”
Silvester is looking for extra contributors. “We want to encourage new writers and correspondents, so anyone who is either a writer or a teacher who is interested in writing for SecEd should get in touch with me at once,” she said.
