Home interest sector up by a quarter

By Press Gazette

The home interest sector has grown by almost 25 per cent in the past year with total sales of 2.7 million, writes Mary Stevens.

Ideal Home continued to lead the sector, selling over 100,000 copies more than its nearest rival, House Beautiful, which was down 11.6 per cent year-on-year.

There has been a shake-up of editors – Ideal Home’s deputy editor Sarah Whelan left to edit House Beautiful in March and Ideal Home lost its award-winning editor Isobel McKenzie-Price to sister title Homes & Gardens, which increased by 6.7 per cent year-on-year.

Your Home reported a year-on-year loss of 24.5 per cent to 115,111 and is gearing up for a new look in the March issue and a price drop from £2.40 to £1.60.

Dharmash Mistry, managing director of Emap Consumer Media, said that Period Living & Traditional Homes would also be relaunched in May or June under editor Sharon Parson. The title dropped 11.8 per cent to 70,562. “We are going to modernise the book and make it more relevant to consumers and how they live today,” he said.

IPC’s Living Etc posted a better result, up almost 14 per cent year-on-year to 92,695.
