Maxim expands

By Press Gazette

Maxim is expanding into Eastern Europe with the launch of Czech and Ukraine editions, writes Ruth Addicott.

The new versions will be the 14th and 15th editions to launch overseas in the past seven years.

The Czech edition is expected to feature pop star Christina Aguilera on the cover and will launch with the March 2003 issue, to go on sale on 25 February. Published by Hachette Filipacchi, sales are expected to settle down at around 35,000 copies a month. Editor-in-chief Pavel Vonracek will be based in Prague.

The Ukraine edition will launch next week. Most of the editorial will come from the Russian edition until the launch is underway and then a specialised editor will be appointed to add local content. The 164-page title will have a print run of 30,000.

Maxim claims to have a growing international readership of more than 16 million. In addition to the UK version, it is published in Europe, Poland, Russia, Korea, the US and South America.
