Jones returns to edit Enfield titles

By Press Gazette

Simon Jones is returning to North London and Herts Newspapers to edit the Enfield Gazette, Enfield Advertiser, Haringey Advertiser and Barnet Press.

Jones, 32, was previously deputy editor of the Trinity Mirror Southern titles until June 2002, when he joined the newsdesk of the Western Mail. He takes over from Justine Woods, who resigned before Christmas.

During his 14-year career in journalism, Jones had a three-year spell in New Zealand, where he was a reporter on the country’s national Sunday broadsheet, the Sunday Star-Times, and worked as deputy editor of current affairs magazine Investigate.

Of his new appointment, he said: “I have a strong affinity with the Enfield Advertiser, and its sister papers, as a reporter, assistant editor, deputy editor and now editor. It’s my firm intention to build on their reputation as a leading group of local newspapers and ensure they become a beacon for quality local journalism.”
