Star Trek honour is out of this world for Jane

By Axegrinder axeblog

Beam me up newsdesk, set notebooks to stun.

News reaches Axegrinder from afar that Scottish Sun crime correspondent Jane Hamilton has boldly gone where no reporter has ever gone before: She is the basis of a recurring character in a series of spin-off novels from cult sci-fi TV series Star Trek.

According to Scott Douglas, founder of Holyrood Partnership PR agency and former head honcho at Deadline Press and Picture Agency, Hamilton is a mad Trekkie and in 1999 bagged the job of online news editor of the magazine for true Klingon fans – TrekNews.

This enviable position saw her befriending Kevin Dilmore, a New York author of several Star Trek books, who in her honour created the character Dr Jane Hamilton who made fleeting appearances in two books.

In the comments section of Douglas’s blog, the spacewoman herself admits: “It’s not something I wanted every man and their hack to know about.”

When asked on the blog whether she’d like to star in BBC sitcom Chewin’ the Fat’s parody on Star Trek, called “Taysiders in Space”, Hamilton said: “I don’t think they’d be able to afford my extravagant fees.”
