Website ABCs for April 2015: Trinity Mirror regionals outperform nationals on traffic growth

The Manchester Evening News website has nearly doubled its traffic in a year, according to the latest website ABCs.

The MEN website recorded an average 498,010 daily unique users last month, up 94 per cent, and is narrowly trailing DailyStar.co.uk on 508,366 (up 44 per cent on April 2014).

Its sister Trinity Mirror title the Liverpool Echo saw its website's figures increase by 92 per cent to 393,571 and overtake the London Evening Standard's 391,422 (up 65 per cent).

In total, the 14 Trinity Mirror regional websites audited monthly by ABC recorded an average of 1.8m unique browsers a day in April.

Elsewhere, Mail Online remains the biggest newspaper website, with 13.6m average unique daily browsers each day, up 25 per cent year on year.

Express.co.uk was the fastest growing national website, up 62 per cent to 780,916 and the Telegraph, up 22 per cent to 4m, the least.

In the month leading up to the 7 May general election, Metro and the Evening Standard were the only national newspaper websites to see their figures grow month on month

DailyStar.co.uk saw its average daily unique user number fall by 16 per cent from March to April, to 508,366.

Note: ABC records 'unique browsers', which are different devices accessing a particular website.
