Trinity Mirror‘s North West and Wales division has reversed its decision to close the Whitchurch Herald after finalising a deal to sell the weekly to NWN Media.
The Herald was one of five weekly newspapers earmarked for closure last month before Trinity Mirror decided on an 11th hour stay of execution to allow it time to consider an offer to buy the title.
The paid-for newspaper, which has an average weekly circulation of 3,883, will publish its first issue under new ownership on Monday.
Carl Wood, publishing director of Trinity Mirror Cheshire, said: “We’re delighted we have been able to negotiate the sale of the Whitchurch Herald title and particularly pleased that this has resulted in the saving of two job roles.”

Two other papers in Trinity’s North West and Wales division, the Wrexham Chronicle and the Mid-Cheshire Chronicle, have closed along with two weekly papers in its Media Wales division, the Neath Guardian and Port Talbot Guardian, with combined job losses expected to number around 26.
