Tindle Newspapers is continuing to bounce back from the recession launching three more new weekly titles in London today.
The three new papers – the Barnet & Potters Bar Press, the Hendon & Finchley Press and the Edgware and Mill Hill Press – cover hyper-local areas of North London already covered more broadly by Tindle’s part-free weekly, The Press.
The three new titles will be distributed free door-to-door to nearly 90,000 homes.
The move follows the launch by Tindle Newspapers of four ultra local titles in Enfield and Barnet in March – which included the East Barnet Advertiser, the Winchmore Hill Herald and the Edmonton Herald.
This week’s launch is the latest by Sir Ray Tindle in his efforts to create local community newspapers across the country. His plan, driven by the Tindle board of Brian Doel, group MD Wendy Craig and Sue Yates is also being implemented in other parts of the group where local community newspapers have been relatively more successful during the recession.
Alison Cruse, publishing director of North London & Herts Newspapers – which produced the new titles – told Press Gazette the staff, led by editor Gary O’Keeffe and advertisement manager Maria Pirani, were enthusiastically behind the launches.
Each new title has some individual editorial and advertising and Cruse said: “It gives us the chance to get closer to the readers and advertisers in the communities we serve.”
Tindle Newspapers publishes more than 200 newspapers in England & Wales, many of them more than 100 years old.
Today’s launch comes as Sir Ray hosts 150 guests at a celebration in Aberystwyth to mark the 150th anniversary of Tindle-owned weekly, the Cambrian News.
