Johnston Press has signed a deal to outsource the production of its local glossy lifestyle magazines to the Press Association.
The agreement covers 15 monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly printed titles published by various Johnston Press newspapers around the UK.
Under the deal, local journalists will continue to supply most of the editorial content for the titles and all advertising sales will remain local.
PA will provide some additional content covering topics such as fashion, beauty, health, interiors, food, gardening, motoring and travel.
The agency’s design team in Howden will be responsible for designing and sub-editing about 700 pages a month, placing ads and sending each completed magazine to a central print site.
PA’s magazine design department currently produces more than 9,000 pages a week for 220 newspaper and magazine clients. It has operations in East Yorkshire and India.
PA managing director Tony Watson said in a statement: “This is important new work for the Press Association as we continue to establish our credentials as producers of high-quality magazines for major consumer publishers.”
