The 158-year-old Surrey Comet newspaper has undergone a relaunch and will include new columnists along with redesigned regular features.
The revamped weekly title, serving the Kingston-upon-Thames area, will include a new new column called ‘In My View’- which this week features MP Edward Davey – and The One Show presenter Angellica Bell’s ‘Mum’s The Word”.
Assistant editor, Julia Kennard, said: ‘Since its birth in 1854, the Surrey Comet has strived to be a mirror image of Kingston’s social, political, industrial and cultural evolution.
‘We have covered all the issues of the day, from the freezing weather that robbed farm labourers of their jobs in 1885 to the official opening of Kingston bypass in 1927, and the devastating blaze that left Madingley tower block residents homeless in 2010.
‘It is this connection to our community that led us to consider taking the next step in that journey with our readers and rejuvenate the newspaper to reflect their changing views, news and aspirations.”
The publication will also feature redesigned regulars such as the education, heritage and Kingston Life sections.
Kennard said Vintage Kingston would highlight the history that made headlines in the paper and the new Kingston Life would celebrate unsung heroes making up the multicultural and vibrant area.
The Surrey Comet had a circulation of 16,470 in the last six months of 2011.
