Martin Wright has been appointed as the new editor of the Shropshire Star.
The 36-year-old takes up the new role on 6 May when current editor Keith Harrison leaves to become editor of the Express & Star, following the departure of Adrian Faber.
Wright is currently associate editor at independent group NWN Media, which includes the Leader, and which covers Wrexham, Flintshire and Chester.
He was brought up in Oswestry and worked for the Shropshire Star as a reporter before moving to become deputy editor at the County Times in Mid-Wales.
He later edited the Oswestry and Border Counties Advertizer and the County Times before becoming deputy editor for Leader and Cheshire Publications.
Wright has worked in his current role since 2009.
In his new position he will be based at the Star’s head office in Ketley, Telford, and will be responsible for managing the evening newspaper editorial team across nine offices, along with the management of the portfolio of 12 weekly newspapers.
He said: “I am looking forward to editing the newspaper for the area where I grew up.
“I will be bringing extensive experience of developing engaging content for readers.
“I welcome the opportunity to build upon this experience at the Shropshire Star.”
Midlands News Association managing director Phil Inman said: “Martin’s appointment is an important move for the MNA.
“I am looking forward to Martin continuing Keith’s work in developing the structure and content of our portfolio across Shropshire.”
