MEN Media, publisher of the Manchester Evening News, is proposing to relocate all commercial and editorial operations to Oldham.
The Manchester Evening News and its 21 sister weekly papers are expected to move to a site roughly ten miles from their current location in the centre of Manchester once Trinity Mirror takes control of the business next month.
Staff were briefed about the planned move to Oldham at a mass meeting this morning. A source told Press Gazette the move would involve all commercial and editorial staff.
Trinity Mirror, which agreed to buy MEN Media today as part of a £44.8 million deal to acquire Guardian Media Group‘s regional media business, already has an Oldham site at which it prints all MEN newspapers.
Any move would comes less than a year after GMG closed the district offices of all its weekly papers in and around Manchester and relocated staff to its Scott Place city centre offices in the Spinningfields development.
A spokesman for Trinity Mirror told Press Gazette: “Due to the lease requirements Trinity Mirror has only been granted a six-month license for the occupation of Scott Place.
“Therefore we are required to relocate operations and it is proposed to relocate to Trinity Mirror’s Greater Manchester premises in Oldham.”
