Local World names two new editors at South Wales weeklies

By Gavriel Hollander

Regional publisher Local World has appointed two new editors on its South Wales titles.

Emma Bryant (above) has been promoted to the editor’s chair at the weekly Carmarthen Journal, while Rebecca Davies has become editor at sister title the Llanelli Star.

Bryant had been production editor of both titles, along with the South Wales Evening Post and its associated lifestyle magazines. She has replaced Jonathan Roberts, who became South Wales Evening Post editor in March.

She said of her new appointment: “It is an incredible honour to take over the editorship of the Carmarthen Journal. The editorial and advertising teams are extremely talented and I look forward to providing the communities of Carmarthenshire with even more local news both in print and online.”

Davies, currently a news editor in South West Wales Media’s Swansea hub, first joined the group as a trainee reporter on the Evening Post in 1996.

“The Star is already at the heart of Llanelli town centre and its surrounding areas,” she said. “These are exciting times and with a fantastic editorial and advertising team around me, I am looking forward to building on its success as editor.”

Tony Dowling, managing director at South West Wales Media, said: “I’m so pleased to be able to recognise the talent within our business for these pivotal posts. Emma and Rebecca are both extraordinary and respected journalists with bags of experience, and I think their unique perspectives and expertise is exactly what we need to lead these brands into a very exciting future.”
