The Lancashire Telegraph has launched a new weekly edition aimed at the Asian community.
Some 2,000 free copies of the new edition were delivered through letterboxes in Blackburn for the first time last Friday morning.
Free copies will continue to be delivered and others will be available at selected outlets in the future.
The new title has been produced by the Telegraph in collaboration with the monthly Asian Image newspaper. Founded in 1997, it claims a free monthly circulation of around 24,000.
A press release announcing the launch said: “It is hoped the new edition will give readers a taste of what is available in the Lancashire Telegraph during the rest of the week and will assist newspaper sales growth. The early feedback has already been very positive.”
Asian Image editor Shuiab Khan said: “The new edition will feature exclusive content from our team of contributors and writers who have continued to make Asian Image a success.
“This is a welcome addition to the Asian Image regional edition and our take on the international and national news via our website.”
Nick Fellows, Newsquest Lancashire and Kendal managing director, said: “Our new weekly Asian edition complements the existing Lancashire Telegraph title portfolio, following the success of our part-paid for, part-free extension into the Burnley market earlier this year; it is important that we continue to offer our readership dedicated local news content.”
The Lancashire Telegraph recorded an average daily circulation of 12,814 in the second half of 2014, according to ABC.
