Kent Messenger Group has appointed Northcliffe Media‘s Ian Carter as its new editorial director.
Carter, who is currently editor-in-chief of Courier Media Group and East Surrey and Sussex News and Media, will taker up his new role in December.

Carter started his career on the Colchester Evening Gazette before spending five years on the Brighton Argus.
He then joined Teletext for the launch of its website working as a senior broadcast journalist for the BBC before moving back into newspapers as group editor for the Croydon Advertiser series in 2002.
In his current role he oversees several local newspapers include the Tunbridge Wells-based Kent and Sussex Courier, Sevenoaks Chronicle, Croydon Advertiser and Surrey Mirror.
In February it emerged that KM Group, which owns newspapers including the Kent Messenger and the Medway Messenger, was to make 159 redundancies – nearly 30 per cent of its workforce as a way of driving down costs.
The family-owned company had previously shed around 65 staff in September and closed six regional offices.
