Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Johnston Press digital boss to leave

By Oliver Luft

Johnston Press digital strategy director Lori Cunningham is to leave the company.

Cunningham, who joined the company two years ago after previously working as head of new business at Net-A-Porter.com and as vice president of strategy at AOL UK, will step down next month.

In her role with Johnston Press, Cunningham oversaw the short-lived experiment which saw the publisher introduce paywalls to a handful of weekly newspaper websites. The experiment was quietly dropped last month.

An internal memo to staff from chief executive John Fry confirmed her departure.

It said: “Since joining the company Lori has been involved in the development of our digital strategy which has evolved from the creation of our own solutions to one of partnership with third parties.

“She was a key part of the team that moved our jobs platform from one developed in house to a new platform sourced from the Daily Mail group.

“She has recently been focusing on the development of a new website template utilising the purchased Polopoly platform. This will replace our existing websites over the coming months.”

Fry added: “I would like to thank Lori for her contribution to our development as a multimedia business. She leaves with our best wishes for the future.”
