Johnston Press has appointed Grant Murray as its new chief financial officer succeeding Stuart Paterson when he stands down from the company’s board.
Murray, who joined Guardian Media Group as interim group chief financial officer last year, will take up his new role on 3 May, with Paterson leaving on 15 March.
Johnston Press announced in October that Paterson, who joined the board in 2001, was resigning from the company to pursue another business opportunity.
Paterson took home £655,000 in 2009, including a salary of £361,000 and cash and share bonuses worth £292,000.
Prior to joining GMG, Murray was chief financial officer at Channel 5, joining the broadcaster in 2001 and before that he served as finance director of United Business Media’s broadcasting and entertainment division from 1999 to 2001.
John Fry, chief executive officer, said: “The board is confident that Grant will prove to be a worthy successor to Stuart.
‘His impressive credentials with substantial senior financial experience within the media sector will serve us well in the future”.
