Corby Extra to go weekly next year

By Andrew Pugh

A six-month old newspaper in Northamptonshire that landed an exclusive interview with Prime Minister David Cameron last week is looking to switch from fortnightly publication to weekly.

Corby Extra was launched at the beginning of April with an initial start-up circulation of around 10,500. The paper is understood to now be averaging sales growth of around 10 per cent with each edition.

Extra Newspapers, which also publishes sister titles in Wellingborough and Kettering, plans to take the paper weekly on 9 January.

In this week’s exclusive with the Prime Minister, Cameron commented: “I was delighted to hear and want to congratulate Corby Extra on its growth in circulation in such a short time, proving that a good quality product will always be appreciated and soon on a weekly basis too.”

Cameron was visiting the town ahead of a by-election following the resignation of Tory MP Louise Mensch.

Extra Newspapers managing editor Stuart Parker has modelled the new titles on the hyper-local portfolio of Sir Ray Tindle.
