Wall Street Journal Europe appoints new publisher

By Rachael Gallagher

Financial news provider Dow Jones has appointed Andrew Langhoff as publisher of the Wall Street Journal Europe.

Langhoff has been working for Dow Jones since 2003 on the US newspaper group Ottaway, most recently as chief executive.

In his new role, Langhoff will also be managing director of Dow Jones’ consumer media group in Europe, Middle East and Africa and will be responsible for The Wall Street Journal’s print and online operations.

One of his first priorities will be developing local sections on WSJ.com to create a more ‘regionally relevant experience for readers”.

He is to be replaced at Ottaway Newspapers by Patrick Purcell.

Dow Jones chief executive Les Hinton said: ‘Andrew and Pat are veteran executives with proven track records at growing print and digital publications.

“These appointments signal our continued desire to invest in all of our brands around the globe.”

Dow Jones was acquired by the Rupert Murdoch-owned News Corp in 2007 and has since been investing in the European marketplace.
