Sun head of features Victorian Newton is to replace Jane Johnson as deputy editor of the News of the World.
Johnson, who is also editorial director of Fabulous magazine, is moving to The Sun as number three and will be in charge of the Saturday edition as well as joining the rota to act as editor when Dominic Mohan is off.
News of the World editor Colin Myler said: “This is a well-deserved and wonderful opportunity for Jane. She is a hugely talented journalist and executive and has shown immense influence with the launch and success of Fabulous magazine. I have no doubt she will be a great success at The Sun.
“I am delighted to welcome Victoria to the News of the World. She is one of the brightest journalists of her generation and will bring with her great energy, dynamism – and a fantastic contacts book.”
Newton leaves The Sun after ten years and take up her new job next week.
