Trinity Mirror subsidiary Media Scotland has unveiled its new senior editorial structure two months after announcing the merger of the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail with sister company Scottish and Universal Newspapers.
Under the new structure Daily Record deputy editor Murray Foote has been made group editor and Stephen Martin, the Scotland Editor of the Sunday Mirror, has been appointed group content editor.
The pair have been tasked with developing the circulation of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail as well as Media Scotland’s local titles including the Ayrshire Post and Stirling Observer.
Murray is a former editor of the Scottish Mirror who helped pioneer Trinity’s editorial ContentWatch system, while Martin is credited with producing ‘agenda-setting stories’during his 12 years at the Sunday Mirror and a previous spell as a Daily Record reporter.
Both will report to Media Scotland editor-in-chief Allan Rennie and will work alongside group editor (local titles) Alan Woodison and digital director Ewan Watt.
In December, Trinity announced the creation of Media Scotland and the departure of the editor-in-chief of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, Bruce Waddell,
Trinity Mirror Nationals Mark Hollinshead became the MD of Media Scotland and Allan Rennie, who was previously editorial development director for Trinity Mirror Nationals, was appointed editor-in-chief of the new company.
Rennie said: “It is only right that Scotland’s biggest newspaper publisher attracts the best talent. With Murray and Stephen now on board with Ewan and Alan, we have a formidable team that will deliver the goods for our national and local titles.”
