Trinity Mirror has created the new role of digital managing director for its nationals division.
The role is being taken up by Chris Ellis, the former senior vice president and international managing director of online games company IGN Entertainment.
Ellis has been tasked with accelerating the digital growth of the nationals division – which includes the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People – with a focus on ‘developing new and existing digital products and services”.
Before joining IGN, Ellis was senior vice president and chief operating officer for Europe at MySpace, and has also held senior positions at AOL and BT.
In a statement Trinity Mirror Nationals managing director Mark Hollinshead said: ‘Chris has a wealth of experience in the digital world and I am delighted he is joining the business to accelerate our progress and drive our digital ambitions.’
The division’s digital team will report into Chris and he will report directly to Hollinshead. He joins the company at the end of the month.
Ellis said: ‘I’m excited by the opportunity to lead the new dedicated digital group which, together with such a strong editorial heritage and passionate consumer base, means the company is well positioned to take full advantage of the growth of all things digital.”
