Telegraph Media Group has today confirmed that Ben Clissitt has been appointed as its new head of sport for the Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph.co.uk.
In his new role Clissitt, who took voluntary redundancy from his post as The Guardian’s head of sport last month, will be an assistant editor reporting to executive editor Mark Skipworth.
Clissitt will also work closely with Euston Partners, the digital and innovations unit established and led by William Lewis, editor-in-chief of TMG.
He joins from Guardian News & Media where he oversaw the sports coverage for The Guardian, The Observer and Guardian.co.uk.
Clissitt worked at the Guardian since 1996 during which time he held a range of positions including head of sport, deputy features editor and executive financial editor.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining the Telegraph. The papers and the website have had an extraordinary year and I am very honoured to become a part of it.
“We are at the beginning of an exciting decade of sport in this country and I look forward to becoming part of the Telegraph’s team and building on the group’s fine reputation for sports coverage in print and online.”
Earlier this week The Telegraph collected six British Press Awards, including newspaper of the year and journalist of the year for Lewis, for its detailed expose of the MPs expenses scandal.
